PILATES IS SUITABLE FOR ALL | WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
Pilates is ABSOLUTELY beneficial for all. It is the most invigorating and challenging workout targeting the whole body, which can be adapted to suit all needs and requirements and the most fantastic thing of all is; there is NO AGE LIMIT!
Pilates strengthens, stretches and re-energises your body and soul and as Joseph Pilates originally declared almost a century ago; “[Pilates] develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” All of which are essential to happily maintaining our body, without any stress or strain, as it grows older.
I am now in my early 70’s and was becoming concerned about my general fitness and particularly my posture. If I passed a mirror in a shop, I noticed that my head and neck were leaning forward (what one’s teachers would have called ‘slouching’). I tried swimming but found the water too cold. Various ‘keep fit’ exercises were too energetic and exhausting. My daughter has a friend who teaches Pilates but I wasn’t inspired by that idea. However, my daughter then arranged for Vanessa to come to the house. Vanessa glided in, glowing, the picture of health and grace and after one lesson I realised that this was the way forward. I no longer worry about being an elderly person, eventually bent over a walking stick, practically unable to see where she is going! I have a better idea of which muscles do what and find myself holding in my stomach when walking then holding back my shoulders and head etc.
Vanessa is very encouraging and inspiring and always explains the purpose of an exercise, the particular muscles involved, and the benefits. I would unreservedly recommend Vanessa. I feel better in myself now that I am doing something about my general posture and well-being.

The purpose of this note is to attest to the credentials of Vanessa Headland as a Pilates Instructor. I am 75 years old and have the residue of injuries from my youthful weight lifting days! Vanessa has helped me substantially to consider the important points concerning myself, most notably; better deportment, general awareness of my structure and how it affects me on a daily basis and breathing correctly during our classes.
